Information for Prospective Students

Welcome! We are delighted you are considering Cornell University in your college search. Students here at Cornell may explore the rich art, culture, and history of jazz improvisation through performance in the CU Jazz Ensembles or through membership with CU Jazz, the student-run jazz organization.

Undergraduate Admissions: Supplemental Recordings

Some undergraduate applicants are particularly talented instrumentalists, and may wish to send a recording to supplement to their application. Specific guidelines for sending recordings are available on the music department website, here.

Bear in mind that it is by absolutely no means required an applicant submit a recording. Nor is it necessary to audition. Also, please note that any recording sent will neither be considered part of an application to the music major nor as part of an audition for a jazz ensemble. You will be asked to audition during your time as a student, here-- many of our private instruction studios and performing ensembles continually audition students for acceptance or skill level placement.
